Travel Beauty Essentials for Carry On Luggage

Hello Everyone!

I made a youtube video about my tips on how to pack your makeup and beauty items when you are going on a trip with carry on luggage only so I thought I would take some pretty pictures and make a blog post about it also! (You can watch my video here: http://youtu.be/-VdHAVyA5EA)

First up is to make sure you keep everything under 100mls!
This is a rule for most air lines so to get around this I would suggest buying travel size items for your hairspray, dry shampoo, toothpaste, shampoos, conditioners and body lotions etc
If you do not want to buy completely new products if you know the products you use work for you then I would suggest to buy empty bottles or tubs from a container store or for example I got mine from postie plus and putting your own products into them, Again just remember to keep them under 100mls!
And remember if worst comes to worst, leave it at home and buy the products you need or forget when you arrive at your destination!

Next, I would do the same thing for your foundations and concealers,
Having glass foundation bottles will make your carry on luggage a bit heavier and not to mention you will run the risk of having smashed foundation bottles. So putting enough foundation and concealer for your trip into a little plastic pot will save you lots of space and weight!

So with packing your make up, I would suggest to pack it in the order you put on your make-up so that you are less likely to forget something!

Don't forget to have a look through what you are taking for what could be classed as liquids - keep them under 100mls and put all your liquids into a plastic bag (This also includes your shampoos, lotions, skincare, foundations etc). Things like lipgloss, liquid lipsticks, primers, mascaras and liquid eye liners are all liquids.

Perfume wise, don't try take your bottle of perfume, even if it's 50 mls. This will be a major risk for breaking and it's actually quite heavy. If you can take a sample size that would be brilliant or I would suggest investing in a Travel-o. This is where you can put your own perfume into it and it is fully travel safe and wont leak! You don't have to get the name brand, lots of companies make a similar type of contraption to do the same thing. I would also suggest getting roller ball perfumes as these are small and you could take a few different sent's with you.

Make-up wise try and take multi purpose products. A powder to set your foundation and concealer. I would recommend taking a translucent pressed powder (as opposed to a loose as they are very messy) so that you can used if for setting all your make-up, can use it for touch-ups and to pop in your hand bag. this just save taking too many compacts with you. Taking a pallet that has everything you need in it such a bronzer, blush and eye-shadow would be ideal so you will again save of the build up of products. Alas I do not have such a pallet so I would suggest taking just one eye pallet that you love and can work for day and night wear. To also take products that have more than one purpose such as my sleek contour kit that have a bronzer/contour colour and a highlight. Taking minimal amounts of make-up products will save space and weight.
A tip for your powder products is to put a tissue/cotton pad/ cotton balls on top of the powder before you close the lid. This will help prevent your powder products from shattering if they get banged around. This would be essentially important if you are putting your make-up in your checked bags (I would also suggest to save heart break to always bring your make-up in your carry on in case of lost luggage and to prevent damaged products)

If you wear contacts, I would recommend for you to wear your glasses on the plane if you can as the air conditioning on the plane will dry out your eyes (especially if you are travelling long distance). If you don't have glasses or don't like to wear them then make sure you have eye drops or contact solution on the plane with you so pop in if your eyes get sore. With contact solution, I am pretty sure it's classed as a medical item so it doesn't have to be under 100mls (check with your airline first) but to save weight and space I would recommend picking up a small version, most companies have smaller bottles for just such a purpose.

Keep your make-up brushes in a brush pouch if you have one to stop your brushes from getting damaged in transit and to keep them cleaner. If you do not have one I would suggest you put them in a clear bag as it will do the same thing. This will also stop the clutter in your make-up bag.

Jewellery wise, keep everything in a little pouch or something similar for ease of access in the mettle detection process. Everything will get knotty and jumbled but there is no getting around it. (I would also put any wires, headphones and chargers in a similar type of bag for the same reason.)

And I think that is petty much it! Leave any of your travel make-up and beauty items tips below and I would love to read them!
